Discover a New Art Form: Alcohol Ink

Alcohol ink may sound like a trendy new cocktail, but it’s actually a vibrant medium used to make paintings. Later this month, you can experiment with this medium in a local workshop with a skilled artist. So take a quick trip down the road from your Maxwell home, and get ready to become an artist for the night!

The Workshop

On May 23rd, 2019, Kristen Jasper is hosting an “Alcohol Ink Workshop” from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Brookielynn’s Bungalow in Frisco, TX. While there, you’ll learn three different ways of working with alcohol ink so that you can discover which method fuels your artistic inspiration. As a bonus, you get to keep all of your practice pieces. You’ll create a final painting that Kristen will resin to give your masterpiece a glossy finish. Tickets include light snacks and cost between $60 to $100, depending on the size of the picture you wish to paint.

What is Alcohol Ink?

According to Kristen’s website, alcohol ink is a highly pigmented, acid-free medium that produces vibrant colors that dry quickly. Her website also includes a blog where she demonstrates a brush technique using alcohol ink for a print inspired by cave stalactites. The layering of colors turns out amazingly bright!

The Artist

Kristen Jasper is an abstract and fine artist who works with a variety of mediums to include watercolors, acrylics, oils, and alcohol inks. She creates commissioned pieces, home d├ęcor, and original artwork. She has been involved in art since she was a child, and “her work is inspired by nature and joy found in life.” She likes to blend her colors and emotions in her work, and she often uses various brushes and palette knives to form unique, artistic markings.
